The company is best known for its broasted chicken, seafood offerings, sandwiches, and signature sauces. Since its establishment, the brand has developed from a single restaurant in Jeddah into one of Saudi Arabia’s most recognized food service businesses, with a growing presence across the Gulf region and beyond.

The story began in 1974 when Shakour Abu Ghazalah, a Palestinian-Saudi entrepreneur, converted a rented warehouse on Old Airport Road in Jeddah into a restaurant specializing in pressure-fried chicken. The concept quickly attracted customers and laid the foundation for what would become the ALBAIK brand. The name was officially registered as a trademark in Saudi Arabia in 1986, providing a formal identity for the growing restaurant business.

Expansion into new cities began during the following years. The first restaurant outside Jeddah opened in Mecca in 1990. Seasonal restaurants were later established in Mina to serve pilgrims during the Hajj season, with three locations introduced in 1998. Medina became part of the network in 2001, followed by the launch of the ALBAIK Express concept in Mecca in 2002. A large seasonal kitchen was opened in Mina in 2006 to support the substantial demand generated during the pilgrimage period.

The restaurant network continued to spread throughout Saudi Arabia. Locations were established in Yanbu, Buraydah, Jizan, Riyadh, Dammam, and other cities, gradually taking the brand beyond its original base in the western provinces. The first restaurant outside the Hejaz region opened in Buraydah in 2015, marking another significant stage in the company’s national expansion.

ALBAIK began its international journey in December 2020 with the opening of restaurants in Bahrain. The following year, the brand entered the United Arab Emirates with its first location at The Dubai Mall. Additional UAE branches followed, extending ALBAIK’s presence in the Gulf market. Kuwait became another international destination when the first restaurant opened at The Avenues Mall in January 2025. The brand has also operated temporary locations in Qatar and has announced plans for expansion into Pakistan.

Product development has remained an important part of ALBAIK’s identity. The company introduced its distinctive blend of 18 herbs and spices in 1984, helping establish the flavor profile associated with its chicken. A spicy chicken variation was added in 1994, while seafood entered the menu with jumbo shrimp in 1995 and value shrimp the following year. These additions broadened the menu while retaining the restaurant’s focus on affordable quick-service meals.

The company’s operations are supported by dedicated food production capabilities. Aquat Food Industries, an affiliated company, became an important producer and supplier for ALBAIK, with a large food processing facility established to support growing demand and improve supply capacity.

Beyond restaurant operations, ALBAIK has participated in community-focused initiatives. Programmes such as the Young Scientist initiative, House Hero, and the Clean Up the World campaign reflected the brand’s involvement in educational, environmental, and social activities.

Today, ALBAIK continues to build on its long history by combining established recipes, recognizable branding, operational expansion, and customer-focused restaurant experiences. From its beginnings in Jeddah in 1974, the brand has developed into a major Saudi restaurant name with an expanding international footprint.
